Preserving History and going Green in Chicago

The Rosenwald building also known as the Michigan Boulevard Garden Apartments is fading fast. The 421-unit, five-story walk-up was the longtime dream of philanthropist and Sears, Roebuck and Co. President Julius Rosenwald. The complex was built in 1929 as affordable housing for African American families in Chicago.
The following were submitted in 2007 by Preservation Chicago.

Awww thanks Danielle! ;)

re: your comment about the Chicago Aids Foundation and using virtual worlds - you might like to check out http://www.karunasl.info/WorldAIDSDaySL/ - there is a significant World Aids Day Movement in Second Life already, and I'm sure lots of opportunities to collaborate! ;)

Thanks Andrew,
We've been courting the Illinois Institute of Technology, incidentally located in the project community.

We really built a great relationship with the public sector by including both Housing & Community Development and the Office of Planning & Development as members of the partnership that promoted and managed the comprehensive planning process. In addition, we ask the University of Memphis (also a partner) to bring its political clout to the table as a non-financial resource and that has worked well.
We had a strategic planning meeting last evening and one of the participants commented on how much more advanced politically we are today than 5 years ago. He said that when the UD speaks, the City listens. That is rarely the case in Memphis. Of course, politics is quite different in Chicago!

Hey Danielle,
How are you? It seems like I haven't talked to you in ages. I would like to change my e-mail address to my home and I'm not sure how to do that. I can send pictures from home but not at work. I'm excited to learn more, but I'm at work and I gotta go to a meeting. Talk to you later.

Hi Dani!

I'm not totally sure how this all works yet (even though I'm fluent in Facebook) - but i think you left a comment for neil on my "wall". Just wanted to make sure you knew that.

I can't wait to read more about B.U.G - also, in looking at all this stuff, I think my sister and brother-in-law will really like it... :)
